Monster Messenger joins forces with Messenger Kids
Messaging for families just became more fun!
San Francisco – Paris, May 2019
When we first launched Monster Messenger in February 2016, 3 years ago, we addressed the unserved market of safe instant messaging for children and their families.
Our mission was to offer parents a safest, funniest and most trustworthy messaging experience to their families in a free and ad-free app available to everyone.
We enjoyed outstanding growth and engagement, far beyond our most optimistic previsions.
After 3 years as an independent publisher, we’ve decided to work together with Facebook’s Messenger Kids team.
Before committing, we spent a lot of time with Messenger Kids’ management in order to make sure we shared the same vision and values. That was of paramount importance to us. And we were utterly impressed to see how aligned our choices were with Messenger Kids’ team and how committed the team was to build a safe and fun messaging experience for families, just like us! It was like looking in a mirror, but with a wider reach!
Messenger Kids and Monster Messenger are built on exactly the same pillars:
- Parents are in control
- Time well spent
Messenger Kids is genuinely family friendly. There are no in-app ads, no in-app purchases, and it is free to download. We are very proud to work with the Messenger Kids team. We hope you’ll follow us in this new adventure, and that your family will enjoy Messenger Kids as much as we do.
I’d like to personally thank you on behalf of our team for your trust and support as parents since launch. You helped us make it right and rightfully challenged us when we didn’t!
As an entrepreneur, creating and operating Monster Messenger has been an incredibly exhilarating adventure, and undoubtedly the best work experience in my life.
I’m very excited that we can contribute to the next chapter in messaging for families!
Monster Messenger CEO
Monster Messenger was a free safe and fun instant messaging for children and their families launched by eduPad in February 2016. Monster Messenger was available globally on iOS, Android and Kindle.
Monster Messenger had a 20% par month growth rate (100% organic), 100K DAU, 600K cumulated downloads from inception, and an amazing 55% retention from launch.
Monster Messenger’s main features were: instant messaging, video calls, Instagram-like images and videos collection, curated YouTube channels, Schools communities with weekly challenges, chatbots (Unicef, anti-bullying…) and an Inspiration Feed based on machine learing algorithms optimizing children’s creativity.
Safety features were a mix of human based moderation, AI based moderation, and user empowerement and reinforcement, with original features like « R U Sure? » encouraging vertuous behaviors (80% of children removed offensive content before posting it). Parents were in full control of their children’s friends list and could set daily usage limits and open or block features based on their digital parenting strategy and their children’s maturity.
About Messenger Kids
Messenger Kids is a free video calling and messaging app designed for kids to connect with close friends and family from their tablet or smartphone. Messenger Kids was launched by Facebook in December 2017, and is available in a selection of countries on iOS, Android and Kindle.
Kids can only connect with parent-approved contacts, which creates a more controlled environment. Group or one-on-one video calls with loved ones are more fun with interactive masks, reactions and sound effects.Messenger Kids enables parents to chat with their children from Facebook Messenger.
Parents fully control the contact list and decide who can connect with their children. Messages don’t disappear and can’t be hidden in case parents would like to check in.
Parents, and approved adults like grandparents, can video chat and message with their kids through their existing Messenger app. No additional app download is needed for parents. Messenger Kids allows kids to message and video call using Wi-Fi so they don’t need a phone number.
Une aventure entrepreneuriale exceptionnelle !
